What is private label jam? (and how it works with a co-packer)

You've got a brand. Maybe it's a hotel, a restaurant, a gift shop, or a business you're building from scratch. You want your own labeled jam on the shelf — but you don't have a commercial kitchen, sourcing relationships, or years of recipe development under your belt.
That's exactly what private label jam is for.
Here's what it means, how the process works, and whether it might be the right move for you.
What is Private Label Jam?
Private label jam (sometimes called white label jam) is a finished product manufactured by a co-packer — a licensed, commercial food producer — and sold under *your* brand name.
You bring the vision. The co-packer brings the kitchen, the equipment, the ingredients, the food safety certifications, and the production capacity. The final product goes out the door in packaging that represents your brand.
It's how a boutique hotel in Portland can offer guests a small-batch Oregon marionberry jam at breakfast — with the hotel's logo on the jar. Or how a gift shop in Cannon Beach can stock an exclusive Pacific Northwest jam collection without ever touching a single berry.
Who Uses Private Label Jam?
More people than you'd expect. Private label jam manufacturing serves a wide range of buyers: **Retailers and gift shops** — Carry a house brand or exclusive regional product that customers can only get from you. It differentiates your shelves from the national brands and gives your store an identity. **Hotels, resorts, and bed & breakfasts** — Offer guests a local touch at breakfast or turn-down. A branded jam jar is one of those small details that guests notice and remember. **Restaurants and cafés** — Put your name on the jam served with biscuits, pastry boards, or charcuterie. It's also a natural retail add-on if you sell branded goods. **Corporate and event gifting** — Nothing says "Pacific Northwest" like a thoughtfully produced jam in a gift box. Private label gives the product your brand, without the headache of sourcing, producing, and labeling everything yourself.
**Food entrepreneurs** — If you're launching a food brand but aren't ready to build your own production facility, co-packing is how most small brands get started. You focus on the product vision, branding, and sales. We handle the manufacturing. **Subscription box companies** — Curated food boxes often feature exclusive or region-specific products. Private label jam is a natural fit.
How Does Private Label Jam Manufacturing Work?
The process is more straightforward than most people expect. Here's how it typically works when you partner with a co-packer like Oregon Hill:
Step 1: Define Your Product
What flavors do you want? What jar size? What quantity? These basics shape everything. Our current line covers everything from 3oz gift jars to 3.5-gallon food service pails — so there's a lot of flexibility depending on your end use. If you're not sure what flavors make sense for your audience, we're happy to talk through it. We've been making Pacific Northwest artisan jams for a long time, and we have a pretty good sense of what resonates with different buyers.
Step 2: Minimum Orders and Logistics
Co-packers work with minimum order quantities (MOQs) — this is just the reality of commercial food production. Minimum quantities vary by product and packaging format. Reach out to us directly to talk through what makes sense for your volume.
Step 3: Labeling
This is where your brand lives. You supply your label artwork — designed to meet FDA labeling requirements — and we apply it to the finished product. If you don't have a label designer, we can point you in the right direction. A few important notes on labeling: the label must include your brand name, the required nutritional facts panel, ingredient list, allergen information, net weight, and some manufacturers may require you to put their facility information as the co-manufacturer. Your label designer should be familiar with FDA food labeling requirements, or we can walk you through what's needed.
Step 4: Production and Delivery
We produce your order in small batches at our St. Helens, Oregon facility, using locally sourced, all-natural Pacific Northwest ingredients — the same way we make everything else. When your order is ready, we coordinate shipping or pickup.

Why Small-Batch Matters in a Co-Packer
Not all co-packers are the same. Large-scale manufacturers optimize for volume and speed. That can mean cutting corners on ingredients, sourcing from wherever is cheapest, or running a product through the same industrial equipment as everything else on their floor.
Small-batch co-packing is different. We know exactly what goes into every product we make. Our marionberries are sourced from Oregon. Our ingredients are all-natural. And Kosher certification means every batch meets rigorous third-party standards.
When your brand goes on one of our jars, the quality inside has to match the promise on the outside. That's a standard we take seriously.
What Flavors Are Available?
Our current jam line includes:
- Seedless Marionberry Jam *(our flagship — Oregon's most celebrated berry)*
We also produce gourmet syrups, honey, apple butters, BBQ sauces, and Bloody Mary mix — all available for white label partnerships depending on volume and requirements.
Have a specific flavor in mind that isn't on our standard list? Let's talk. Co-packing relationships often evolve over time, and we like working with partners who have a clear vision for what they're building.
Is Private Label Right for You?
Ask yourself a few questions:
- Do you need a quality, branded food product without building your own production facility?
- Is your customer base one that values artisan, locally sourced Pacific Northwest foods?
- Are you ordering in quantities that justify a commercial production run?
- Do you want a partner who will stand behind the quality of what goes out the door?
If yes to most of those — private label jam manufacturing is probably worth a conversation.
If you're just looking for a few dozen jars for a one-time event, a co-packing arrangement may not be the right fit. Our retail and food service products are available for smaller quantities without a private label arrangement.
